Replacement Fuse Box
Due to the 17th Edition of wiring regulations requiring most circuits to be protected by an RDC (Residual Current Device) a replacement fuse box within your home may be required. An RCD is a life saving device designed to prevent us from getting an electrical shock, sometime fatal, when a live circuit is touched. It is also designed to assist in providing protection against some unpreventable electrical fires.
Consumer Unit Explained
A modern Fuse Board or Consumer unit consists of 2 main components. The Main Switch and the MCB for each circuit.
The main switch is there purely to turn off the power to your home when necessary and does not act as any sort of safety device. The MCB for each circuit is the replacement device for old rewirable fuses. MCB stands for miniature circuit breaker and basically is a switch which will automatically turn itself off whit a circuit overload is detected, so when you fuse box 'trips' its this device acting as it should. If this happens often it may mean there is a fault in your system that may need to be checked.
